Heard In the Dentist's Chair....

Today Megan had a dentist appointment, her fourth, I think. Thankfully no cavities...phew! Megan loves going to the dentist, as only a kid who's never had a cavity or any kind of tooth issue could. She was so excited about the appointment, which was at 10:30 this morning, that she wanted us to leave the house a few hours before we had to, so she could hurry up and get there!

I always think it's funny when an adult who doesn't know Megan has an encounter with her. They always marvel at the crazy, adult-like things she says. Around here, we're used to it, but it's always amusing to view her through fresh eyes. Like today. So when Megan's appointment was over, the hygienist came out to talk to me. She told me how she had asked Megan how many times per day she brushes her teeth, and whether her parents help her. Yes, Mommy and Daddy help her brush her teeth, Megan had replied. She then went on to tell the hygienist: "My Daddy went to a conference in Boston, and he learned that kids need help brushing their teeth until they are six." Cracks me up!

I later asked Bill if it was indeed true that he had "learned this" at his conference in October, or whether it was something he had just made up to lend authority to our demand that we help her brush her teeth. Bill said he did remember hearing this at his conference, and guesses he must have told Megan about it. I suppose this goes to show that we'd better watch what we tell her. We may forget what we say to her, but it's darn tootin' that Megan won't!
