Time To Catch Up a Bit!

Wow....no April posts....no May posts....I really need to get back into this blogging thing! I'll try to do better. Hopefully there will be a lot to write about, since we're once again trying the "do at least one fun thing a day" pledge this summer.

So, a few little tidbits in the meantime. Last Tuesday, we brought home Megan's preschool pet, Mocha the bunny. He is going to be staying with us through the month of June. Megan has been asking me if we could "bunny sit" for Mocha on a school break since she was in the 3s class last year, and this was the first time it worked out. Both the girls are soooo excited. They rush downstairs first thing in the morning to check on Mocha and say good morning. They run in the door and check on him when we get home. Rachel, especially, seems to like talking to Mocha. She will stand at his cage and make all kinds of baby talk sounds at him. Luckily the poor bunny is used to little kids and lots of chaos, since he lives at a preschool! Rachel calls him "Funny Bunny." When we are eating a meal, Rachel will say, very concerned, "Mama, Mocha's not eating!" She thinks he should be eating his dinner when we do! We have a large pen that we can use to take Mocha outside, but so far, because of wet grass on the days we've wanted to try it, he's only gotten to try out his pen in our kitchen. Not sure how much he liked scampering around on the slippery tile floor. Thus far he's been very easy to care for, and is a very sweet bunny. Kinda makes me want to get a pet....well, for a minute, anyway....

Tomorrow is Potty Day! We are going to be home most of the day and I'm using it as an opportunity to strip Rachel of her diaper and make her go around pants-less. I'm hoping that this will enable us to get her to pee on the potty one way or another (even if I have to run her into the bathroom midstream). I'm also hoping I can (a) find enough things to do to keep her occupied in the non-carpeted areas of our house for most of the day, or outside, and (b) that I can handle having to be RIGHT with her every single minute of the entire day. Ugh. Today we went to Meijer and I let Rachel pick out candy that she can earn each time she pees in the potty (she chose Brach's chocolate stars. Leave it to her to choose something that will keep me running back to the bulk aisle at Meijer again and again. Oh well, if it works, that's great!). She also got to choose a toy that she will get once she has stayed dry for three (not necessarily consecutive) days. After much deliberation (and mind changing when we were halfway across the store), she chose a Little Mermaid Polly Pocket set. I hope this, and the excitement of new underwear, will help motivate her. I'm putting Ariel up on a high shelf in the toy room so she can look longingly at it all day. Wish us luck!

Finally, one cute little comment from Megan today. It had rained on and off today, and as we were leaving Meijer, the girls were noticing how it was still wet outside, even though it was no longer raining. Rachel asked, "What stops the rain?" Megan didn't miss a beat, and responded, "I know what stops the rain. Mr. Sun asks Mr. Rain if he can have a turn." Taking turns as an explanation for the weather....is that cute or what?
