My Girls Have Byoo-ful Souls!

Megan's pictures for God (front, above; and back, below)

I know, multiple posts in one day is unprecedented for me, but there are a few things I just didn't want to let pass without making note of them. I have two little cute stories from the last week or so, one about each of my little sweets. And please forgive the lack of paragraph formatting; for whatever reason, Blogger is not letting me make paragraphs on this entry! Argh...
As you may or may not know, Megan is REALLY into drawing these days. I recently put out an art center, so that the girls would have art supplies at their fingertips, without always having to ask me for them, and I can't keep the paper bin stocked! (I also can't keep our house unburied from all the accumulating pictures, but I'm enjoying this phase!)
This past week, Megan drew the above pictures. She came and told us that she drew them for God. (She's been very into drawing fairies lately, which is what the winged creatures are; and she wrote "God" without asking for spelling help.) She told Bill that she wanted to send them to God by "putting them in the wind." How sweet is that? She really wants to do it, too, and keeps reminding me every time she spots the picture still laying around our house. I guess we will have to go outside and let her picture fly on the next windy day.
My little story about Rachel speaks to the boundless optimism in children. One of her favorite sayings as of late is, "It's a byoo-ful day to play outside!" Sadly we haven't had much time to play outside lately, and this is a reminder to me that she wants to get out and enjoy the outdoors! It's so cute the way she says "beautiful." And I love that she says it even on days that are NOT so beautiful (or warm) to play outside. This summer I was always trying to point out how gorgeous the weather was, how beautiful our world is when the sun is shining, and trying to nurture in the girls an appreciation for all things alive and growing around us. I would always tell them, "This is such a beautiful day!" I'm glad to know that Rachel seems to have internalized some small part of that message, because she hasn't heard me say it in awhile, but this observation has become part of her regular vocabulary. I love that she is excited and observant about the world...even when most of us wouldn't call it a "byoo-ful day." It's a good reminder to me that every day that we have been gifted to spend with our loved ones is indeed a beautiful day.
