Back to school this week! Thankfully all of us are now well and ready to take on our return to our fast-paced schedules. Sunday Bill took the girls sledding at the "church hill" near our house. They had a blast with that, until Megan somehow catapulted off her sled and face-planted on the ground. Oh well, a trip to Biggby for hot chocolate made it all better.
Tuesday brought a trip to the doctor for both girls, as Rachel has been using the bathroom a lot lately, and Megan has a wart on her right hand that seemed to be growing. Megan, meet liquid nitrogen. Megan was not pleased with this experience in the least. Our girl with a flair for drama was quite traumatized by this experience. We're hoping we don't have to have it re-treated. (Thankfully, Rachel's urinalysis and culture came back just fine.)
Wednesday we had a Brownie meeting, and I had the, er, privilege of having both Daniel and Rachel in tow for this meeting. It is increasingly hard to keep Daniel occupied in a school classroom full of 2nd grade girls. He enjoyed sitting at the table for snack like a big kid, but then wanted to run free, step on the girls' mural laid out on the floor, and root through their backpacks. Plus he's a great distraction to the already distractible and squirelly girls. Rachel wasn't much better...continuously asking me for "a project," or "something to draw." Next week, Grammy and Gaga will be babysitting during our Brownie meeting!
it was a fun week of little phrases for Daniel. His new favorite is, "What doing?" He asks us this constantly, even when the answer is clear. "What doing, Mama?" "I'm eating lunch, Daniel." Even though we had taken the Christmas tree down Monday night, Daniel didn't have a lot of time to notice it Tuesday, because we were gone a good portion of the day. On Wednesday, he went in that room and asked, "Where Christmas tree go?" He also said, "I want Santa." Sorry buddy. All done! (Although we may be listening to Laurie Berkner's "Candy Cane Jane" in the car for months to come.) Continuing his trend of yelling, "Help! Help!", this week Daniel yelled, "Help! I need help! Close the drawer!" because he didn't like my kitchen junk drawer hanging open. Compulsive....that's my boy! He also took much delight this week in dropping his toys one by one back into the basket and saying, "I cleaning!" Love that! The toy of the week seems to be a Mr. Potato Head set that Bill brought up from the basement. He loves that thing. He's even able to get some of the parts into "Mrs. Po-tay-to." (Bill keeps trying to tell him that it's MISTER Potato, but he doesn't seem to get it.)
We capped off the week with a fun afternoon visit to our dear friends, the Kleinerts. The kids enjoyed hanging out with Brynne and Baileigh, and tormenting their poor dog Hewitt with a laser pointer.
It's hard to believe there was so much snow on the ground just a week ago.....warm temperatures the last two days, coupled with rain, have melted all of it! Today the temps made it close to 60 degrees! Is it really January? Hopefully some snow will return soon....we have yet to take Daniel out in it this year!
