OK, so I haven't been very faithful these last few weeks. Saturdays, which I've set aside to do my blog, have been busy (and I've been tired!), so I haven't felt like writing. Then BAM....the week gets away from me. So here goes, an attempt at a three week recap, starting with Week 5:
Week 5 (January 27-February 2):
Sunday, the kids and I ventured to Culvers in a snowstorm for dinner, just the four of us, as Bill was meeting his friend Gene for dinner and a movie. No matter that Rachel said she had to go to the bathroom the minute we got there (by the way, I made her wait, since she had JUST GONE)....we had a nice dinner together. As for Bill and Gene, due to a car accident nearby, they ate their dinner in the dark (power went out at the restaurant) and had to see a different movie at a different theater.
Monday was a snow day! No school for the girls meant lazing around for all of us :)
Tuesday Daniel and I headed to the Rivertown Mall (driving in EXTREME fog, thank you very much!) to get some errands done there. The highlight of this day was Daniel's love-hate relationship with the carousel. In the past, Daniel has initially protested about getting on the horse on carousels, but usually warms right up as soon as it starts moving. So when he started screaming as I put him on the pony on this day, I assumed all would soon be well. I assumed wrong. He pretty much screamed the whole time, with short little pauses just to tease me. I'm pretty sure the carousel operator lady and all the other moms on the thing thought I was the worst mom ever for forcing him to ride it! When we were done, we had lunch at Panera in the mall. He kept saying, "I ride the pony. I was cwying!" Then he also said, "I wan see the horse. I wan do horse again!" I was not fooled. The other funny little thing that happened at lunch was that he saw the picture of the cow on the front of his milk and thought the bell under its chin was a paci.
Wednesday, Daniel was in the playroom yelling "I scared!" This is pretty common for him, but this time, I could tell there was something really scaring him. When I went in, there was a spider on the floor. Guess he doesn't like bugs.
Thursday, Daniel was exhibiting his counting prowess. He gleefully recited, "1, 2, 6, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14....FOURTEEN!!!!" He hears his sisters counting, and he wants to do it too. He has been known to count correctly from one to five, but it's hit or miss. Lots of snow today caused my PTO meeting to be canceled, and it was a treacherous drive to dance class, but we made it.
Friday, we awoke to a cold house and a thermostat reading 62 degrees (we keep it set at 67 overnight, so clearly something was wrong!). We couldn't believe that our furnace, which is set to be replaced next Thursday, could not wait just a few more days before kicking the bucket. Thankfully, Redmon Heating was able to send someone out to do a "quick fix" to last us through the weekend. Apparently the blower motor had gone out. Now our new furnace installation is bumped up to Monday. Bill and I did not let that deter us, however, from having a nice night out. We went to dinner at Johnny Carino's and saw "Les Miserables" at the movies. It's been so long since we went to a grown up movie together, that neither of us can really remember what the last one was! This movie was excellent and definitely worthy of all its Oscar nominations.
Saturday was a very special day for the girls and Bill. It was our school district's annual Daddy Daughter Dance! This was the first year that Rachel was old enough to tag along, so Bill had two lovely dates on his arm. It was so cute watching the girls choose their dresses, curling their hair, and getting their corsages from Daddy. All three of them had a great time. They came home with lots of stories, and a princess crown and wand each. Here's a picture of the three of them ready for the dance:
