Recap of Week 6 (February 3-9):
Sunday was the Super Bowl, so our weekend of frantically cleaning up the basement culminated in Bill having a few of his buddies over to watch the game. I always enjoy the opportunity to be a chip and dip glutton and make fun of the half time show. I had to excuse myself from the game to watch Downton Abbey on PBS, of course!
Monday our new furnace and hot water heater were installed. Not exactly purchases we had been planning on, but sadly, our house is getting to "that age."
Daniel was full of funny comments this week. On Tuesday, at lunch, he said, "Can you help me?" He wanted me to get him out of his high chair. During play time, when he was in the other room playing by himself, I heard him say to some of the toys, "See you later! I love you!" We had gone to Meijer in the morning, and I had bought a new kind of cereal (Alpha Bits, but forever after to be known in this house as Super Why Cereal). It had the cartoon character Super Why on the box, and Daniel loves Super Why. He insisted on holding the box for the entire shopping trip. When we got home and I had unloaded the groceries, I realized I did not have the box of cereal. I wondered aloud, "Where is the Super Why cereal?" I thought maybe I had somehow lost it along the way. Daniel didn't miss a beat. He replied, "Right here!" and proceeded to lead me to the box of cereal. Apparently he had unloaded it from its bag and taken it in to the art table in the toy room.
Wednesday Daniel and I ventured to the library for story time. I'm trying to take him weekly, and he is really starting to love going. He is often shy when we get there, and will cling to me or hide his face in my lap, but then he'll let loose at times and run around excitedly. He loves getting the "everybody reads" book out of the book tub for us, and really has fun with the colorful ribbons that they shake to music. Miss Jacque, the beloved children's librarian who leads story time, has again achieved rock star status in our house. Daniel loves her! Although a bit shy when actually in her presence, he talks about her nonstop. This week it was, "Where Miss Jacque?" "Jacque funny!" "Jacque sings!" I wish she could hear him talk about her so much, but he is in muted awe in her presence :) On Wednesday Daniel also continued to hone his counting skills....when I said "One", he said, "2, 3, 4, 5, 6!"
Friday we had yet another snow day! The girls enjoyed hanging out at home and just taking it easy. Thankfully the weather calmed down by dinnertime, and I got to meet my dear friend Leigh for dinner at PF Changs. We drank and stuffed ourselves and had a great time catching up.
Saturday we decided to make the best of the snow, and we took all the kids sledding at Meadow Brook. They have quite the sledding hill there! It was great, and there were no more than two other families there at any given time, so that was nice. Daniel was content to sit under a tree in the sunshine and watch the girls go down the hill. He did go down the hill a few times on Bill's and my lap, and shrieked with what we think was glee :) Thankfully the temperatures were not too cold. Bill and I even took a few turns on the sled with the girls....but I swear I'm getting too old for that! It was so bumpy, I thought I might break my tailbone. No sledding trip would be complete without a trip to Biggby for hot chocolate, so that's just what we did.
